D.A.S.H. (During After School Hours) ‘Be A Survivor’

~ Enrichment programme for primary (elementary) school children

Our Vision: The children of Singapore learning to be survivors in a competitive world. Champions in every field, be it academic or athletic, all have something in common, that is to have a positive mindset and the self-belief and ability to turn any situation in one?s favour.

Our Mission: To turn every child into one that is confident, independent, strong and happy. Through fun activities, challenging games and heart-to-heart contact time, we impart vital core values and life skills, encourage divergent thinking and a thirst for knowledge.

My boy was in Glory Academy’s after-school programme in SJI Junior and absolutely loved it. On the days he attended, he always came home smiling even though it had been a long day, telling me stories of the activities they had done and the things he had learnt from the coaches. He particularly loved the sports and football aspect, and being in the programme helped build his self-confidence as well. He also joined the Glory Holiday Camp recently (September 2014) and that was wonderfully educational and a fun couple of days out too. Thank you, Coach Jerry and team, for everything!

Vital Core Values ? A strong belief system must be inculcated in our children, to empower them to live a power-driven life. We will show them how to believe in themselves, strive for excellence and serve the community, while imparting essential values like integrity, responsibility and empathy via true life experiences that they can identify with.

Skills for Life ? From a young age, children should learn how to live a life of practical excellence in the outside world. To help them with this, we focus on a series of life skills touching on areas such as socialisation and communication, decision-making, emotional literacy, stress management, awareness of one?s surroundings and a continued love for learning…all whilst having fun!

Of Minds & Mechanics ? Society sometimes stifles creativity by showing children the ?right? or ?wrong? way to do things. We want to show them that they are capable of finding their own answers by encouraging lateral and divergent thinking, and we do this via simple yet exciting hands-on projects that require them to think out of the box.

World of Knowledge ? Children are naturally inquisitive but gradually lose their childhood penchant for asking ?why? as they are often reminded to keep quiet and just do what they are told. We want to reawaken their curiosity and love for exploration by bringing science, history and current affairs to them in a fun yet informative way. Students will be invited to share their take on the world too.

Sports & Fitness ? Values and characters of students are often seen when they are in their natural environments and also when they are having fun and being observed at the same time. Challenges of competition help to develop and reveal true strength of character. We use sports and fitness as a tool to aid us in our performance coaching efforts.

Sing, Dance & Tell ? Simply because children?s singing is not just music for the ears but also food for their soul. A fun variety of storytelling, music and dance genres will encourage social interaction and provide a healthy way to work out the stress accumulated throughout the school week. We show them that it’s even ok to be silly!

Face Time ? Another special period we set aside each day is where students and coaches come together for some heart-to-heart. We set goals, discuss what we learnt during the day, week, month or even the whole term, talk about problems faced and how to overcome them, and celebrate goals that have been accomplished. At the end of each term, we invite parents to join us for Face Time too.

Every child has great qualities inherent within them but many are unaware of what they are capable of achieving. Through performance coaching sustained throughout the entire programme, you will see a confident and determined yet thoughtful and humble child before you in the months to come. We believe that children who experience the Glory Academy D.A.S.H. (During After School Hours) ?Be A Survivor? programme will be high achievers in all areas of life.

Contact Time

For 4 hours once a week, our coaches will work with kindergarten and primary school children in key areas like personal fitness, sporting excellence, hands-on creativity, general knowledge, vital core values and essential life skills.

There will be a different overall theme each month, such as “TEAMWORK”, “RESPONSIBILITY” or “PERSONAL SAFETY”, as well as a different topic each session, such as “IN THE NAVY”, “MY FAMILY” or “AT SCHOOL”. Lessons will be designed specifically to target different age groups appropriately. Please see the sample lesson plan below for an example:

In addition, we bring something different to the table every term. These may include:

  • Electives ? In partnership with external coaches, students are exposed to art, music, karate, etc.
  • Career focus ? We invite professionals and parent volunteers to chat with the students about what they do
  • Entrepreneurs’ day ? Kids learn about having an entrepreneurial mindset via selling their own projects!

and most of all, to be confident to face the world with a smile on their face and a song in their heart!
