Our Key Coaches
Founder, Managing Director & Honorary Head Coach
a.k.a Our boss, coach jerry
"My ever-supportive wife coaxed me to start a football academy since I love to be around children and because I love football, so Fit To Play by FTP Sports was born on my son Shane’s ninth birthday, Christmas Day in 2011," says Coach Jerry.
Our boss, Coach Jerry, has loved sports from a very young age and throughout primary school (Tanglin Primary School), he was involved in soccer, badminton, volleyball, softball, sepak takraw, table-tennis and athletics, before going on to Queensway Secondary, where he continued to hone his fitness and sporting abilities. He also represented the Singapore Navy in inter-formation soccer tournaments. After that, it was social football all the way, playing in many veteran tournaments across Southeast Asia.
To further boost his expertise as a coach, Coach Jerry is a qualified Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner, using this know-how to assist him in his coaching of children. For more about NLP, please click here. Of course, like all our sports coaches, he is also certified in Standard First Aid and CPR/AED.
On a personal note, Coach Jerry was born and bred in Singapore and grew up in the Queenstown area, living in Redhill and Tanglin Halt for about 30 years. A devout Roman Catholic, he served The Blessed Sacrament Church as an altar boy and choir member; during Christmas carolling with his choir, he often dressed as Santa, entertaining at hospices, old folks homes, prisons, homes for the less privileged and even refugee camps, bringing love and cheer to the needy. Later, he served the Republic of Singapore Navy for six years and continued sailing for another few years before meeting the woman of his dreams in 1985. In 1997, Jerry and Crystal tied the knot and are now the proud parents of two boys, Shane Christian and Scott Michael. Together they enjoy holidaying, fishing and helping to run FTP Sports as a family.
He believes that his greatest teachers and sources of inspiration are his parents.
Lessons his father taught him:
to be good at sports to give yourself that edge against others, be good in mind and good in body
to stand up for yourself and never be bullied
to be as generous as much as the pocket allows
to play three indoor games, namely Scrabble, carrom and darts, that you may carry through your life. Coach Jerry still plays these games today to keep his mind active.
Lessons his mother taught him ("Mummy was an ex-convent girl who almost became a nun until she met my father!" quips Coach Jerry):
all the ingredients of the word LOVE: patience, humility, contentment, integrity…
to always to put yourself in the other person’s shoes before acting and reacting
to always forgive
These are also the values he wants to inculcate in the children he coaches and he loves coaching children so much simply because he sees so much innocence within them and they are the best people to teach because they WANT to learn and be excited. Apart from implementing solid coaching techniques, he insists on maintaining a strong feeling of family within Fit To Play and Glory Academy as he believes that he can get the best out of children when they feel that they belong to a special sporting community.
When Coach Jerry isn’t working with children or spending time with his family, he also works with a real estate agency, having a deep passion for real estate knowledge and is a qualified Council of Estate Agency salesperson.
Project Manager, Coach Zach
Coach Zach was born in Singapore “coincidentally” the same year the movie Braveheart was released. Born in the 1990s, Zachary Alleano grew up watching the world cup and EPL gradually falling in love with the sport as his feet grew into his favorite Predator football boots. Starting in Meridian primary school up until he graduated from Australian International School Singapore, he played football as his CCA, in his free time and for both school and external tournaments. His achievements vary from tournament cups, Academic compliments & running a restaurant at 21 years old.
Born in 1995, Coach Zach is a young and determined skipper in life. Striking at opportunities that arise & challenging himself to produce results for his team through leadership, confidence and consistency.
First stepping foot in local primary school, Coach Zach knew his feet belonged in sports. Through the years he was growing up he was unknowingly struggling with ADHD in a time that it was not recognized medically. His grades were taking a toll. He turned to sports as a safe space; surprisingly making him one of the best in his team. His coaches would tell him his thought process was unique when it came to play-making, passing and leadership. He started primary school with failing grades until football & sports brought it above average. Through hard work, consistent studying and the passion to enter a football academy his grades increased.
It wasn’t until he entered the Australian International School Singapore, that he learnt his challenges in academic life wasn’t because he was incapable but that he wasn’t diagnosed. After a school counselor pulled him aside about his failing grades, he attended a cognitive psychology test; at 14 years old, Zachary truly bloomed into the goal scorer, academic achiever & project manager he is able to be today.
No longer with the mental hurdle of learning, Zachary took a passion in Business Management & Psychology. Studying what it takes for businesses to thrive and how to develop them to its maximum potential. Coach zach is now working a job he is passionate about both on and off the pitch.
